Brooklyn-based filmmaker and creative director Scott Lazer has joined production studio Pomp&Clout for work across commercials and music videos. This marks his first career signing for spots and music clips.
Lazer will come aboard a directorial roster at Pomp&Clout that includes founder Ryan Staake, Jay Buim, Reed + Rader, Lil Internet, and Najeeb Tarazi.
Lazer has directed original programming for HBO, Spotify, and Tidal, and his work has been nominated for MTV Video Music Awards and screened at film festivals around the world. Most recently, his short film Commute, about New York City’s Penn Station, was a “Best of the Month” Vimeo Staff Pick selection.
Pomp&Clout founder Staake commented: “Having the opportunity to collaborate with Scott previously on several wide ranging projects, we’ve always felt he perfectly melds with our team and our approach to creating meaningful work. We’re excited to move to the next stage of our creative partnership and finally putting a ring on it. The worlds of production and content are changing by the day and Scott’s eclectic style gives him a leg up in adapting to challenges while staying true to his artistic intent.”
Lazer related, “Pomp&Clout and I have a long history together. They’ve produced some of my best work including “ATM” and “Kevin’s Heart” with J. Cole and “Boca Raton” with Bas and A$AP Ferg. Officially joining forces with them feels like a natural progression.”
Known for his collaborations with artists such as J. Cole, Daniel Caesar, Tierra Whack, BJ The Chicago Kid, Ari Lennox, J.I.D, Thundercat, and Bas, Lazer has also worked with actors Kevin Hart and Ansel Elgort and his creative direction has been televised on The Tonight Show and the BET Awards.
Lazer’s latest documentary short, Visitors, premiered in September on Vimeo and looks at what happens to the tiny disappearing desert town of Rachel, Nevada, 27 miles north of Area 51, after a prank Facebook event goes viral. Visitors earned Lazer another Vimeo Staff Pick.
