Bicoastal production company Supply&Demand has added director Phil Joanou to its roster for commercial and music video representation in the U.S. Joanou is a filmmaker with diverse experience across spots, music clips and features, with a portfolio spanning film disciplines including visual storytelling and VFX. He had most recently been repped in the ad arena by MJZ.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Joanou is well known for his collaborations with rock band U2, directing some of its most seminal music videos including “One,” “All Because of You,” “Bad,” and MTV Award winner “When Love Comes To Town.” He also directed the concert film U2: Rattle and Hum, which documented the band’s influential Joshua Tree tour. His creative work can also be seen in videos for other renowned artists such as Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi, and award-winning work with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. After Joanou graduated USC Film School, he quickly launched into directing feature films including teen comedy Three O’Clock High as well as State of Grace, Final Analysis, Heaven’s Prisoners, and Gridiron Gang.
Joanou directorial credits in commercialmaking include such clients as Disney, Mercedes, Budweiser, Nike, Coke, Samsung, Gatorade, NASCAR, and ESPN. His work has been recognized by the AICP, the D&ADs, the Addys, and has received a Cannes Lion. In addition to his commercial achievements, Joanou has received two MTV Music Awards, a Peabody Award, and five Primetime Emmy Awards.

“Heretic” and “Maria” Set As Red Carpet Premieres At AFI Fest
The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced that Heretic, the psychological thriller starring Hugh Grant, and Maria, based on the life of opera singer Maria Callas starring Angelina Jolie, will round out the Red Carpet Premieres section at this yearโs AFI Fest. The Heretic Gala Screening will take place on Thursday, October 24, and the Maria Gala Screening will be held on Saturday, October 26. The complete Red Carpet Premieres section includes the world premieres of Music By John Williams, Robert Zemeckisโ Here, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and Clint Eastwoodโs Juror #2. All Red Carpet Premieres will take place at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre. The full lineup for AFI Fest 2024 will be unveiled on October 1.

Heretic follows two young missionaries (Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) who are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed (portrayed by Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
