Biscuit Filmworks has added creative collective The Glue Society and Rachel McDonald to its directorial roster for spots, branded content and experiential in the U.S. and U.K.
The Glue Society is a 10-member art and directing collective behind some of the ad industry’s most-awarded experiential projects, having earned a Cannes Titanium, five Cannes Grands Prix, and dozens of other Cannes Lions, D&AD Yellow Pencils, and more. Their groundbreaking work spans multiple mediums, such as ANZ Bank’s GAYTM installations, a hearing test disguised as a short film for Cochlear, the viral multi-platform “Until We All Belong” campaign for Airbnb, and the recent “On the Go” activation for Stella Artois via Mother London. In addition to their advertising work, The Glue Society’s art projects have been exhibited at Miami Art Basel, Pulse New York, and Art & About Australia, among others.
Biscuit has a track record with The Glue Society, having repped individual directors with the collective–Gary Freedman who’s now with RESET Content, and Matt Devine who’s still with Biscuit but not The Glue Society. This, however, marks the first time that Biscuit has taken on representation for the full collective which continues to work via Revolver/Will O’Rourke in Australia and New Zealand.
“The Glue Society not only leads the pack in experiential advertising, but they are constantly reinventing the medium and finding memorable new ways for brands to connect with audiences,” said Rupert Reynolds-MacLean, managing director at Biscuit UK. “Brands are hunting for new opportunities, and with Biscuit partnering with The Glue Society the sky is the limit for what we can create for clients and agencies through experiential activations, new technology, and film.”
Rachel McDonald
McDonald also comes aboard Biscuit Filmworks in the U.S. and U.K. She had been formerly handled in the American ad market by Tool of North America.
McDonald has to her credit notable campaigns for Facebook, Microsoft, IKEA, HP, and the Grammys. Her “Behind the Post” PSA for the One Love Foundation earned multiple awards including a Silver Cannes Lion and continues to be used as part of the organization’s curriculum for recognizing and preventing relationship abuse. She got her start in features working for acclaimed directors Frank Darabont, Nancy Meyers, and Clint Eastwood. She has also written and directed several acclaimed short films including Thirst starring Melanie Griffith and the documentary short Uganda: Friends of the Gorilla.
Shawn Lacy, co-founder and managing director at Biscuit, assessed, “Rachel is a striking talent who combines elegantly composed visuals with affecting narratives to make viewers feel deeply connected to the story unfolding on screen.”
McDonald and The Glue Society join a Biscuit’s directorial lineup that includes company co-founder Noam Murro, Aaron Ruell, Aaron Stoller, Andreas Nilsson, Christopher Riggert, Clay Weiner, Dan DiFelice, Daniel Warwick, Errol Morris, Isaiah Seret, Jeff Low, Joaquin Baca-Asay, Laerke Herthoni, Matt Devine, Michael Downing, Olof Lindh, and Steve Rogers.
SCHROM x Yacht Club and Be Electric Studios Launch Electric XR for Virtual Production
SCHROM x Yacht Club, a full-service live-action, tabletop, and postproduction company, has teamed with Be Electric Studios, a soundstage, equipment rental, and virtual production company, to launch Electric XR, a virtual production collective.
Industry veteran Thomas Rossano will lead the new venture, which provides advanced virtual production solutions across multiple facilities. Additionally Rossano continues to serve as EP at XR New York (XR-NY), a role heโs held since December 2022. SCHROM x Yacht Club originally established XR-NY to help provide XR services for third-party rentals. While XR-NY will continue to function independently for SCHROM X Yacht Club, it now operates under the Electric XR umbrella.
Rossanoโs expertise spans producing live-action commercials, branded content, interactive and experiential content. In addition to leading Electric XR, he holds responsibilities at SCHROM x Yacht Club which include driving business development, collaborating with sales reps and expanding the companyโs creative talent network. Rossanoโs career includes serving as an exec producer at Hungry Man for about 11 years, right from that companyโs inception. He then went on to become a partner at Station Film where he also had a lengthy tenure. Later he was a partner at PRISM. Then after the pandemic hit, he became a freelance EP for nearly two years, looking into opportunities in virtual production, which led him to XR NY and now Electric XR.
