The Bigger Picture has signed director/DP Michael Bernard. At his new roost, Bernard is currently on a multi-city campaign for a luxury car brand, which will break in the coming months.
Bernard has an affinity for developing emotional connections through visual narratives as reflected in the documentary series Finding Bespoke, which explores stories of makers who bring an unwavering passion and deeply personal connection to a craft, from violin masterworks to custom designed shoes.
Los Angeles-based and London raised, Bernard was previously repped by Believe Media. He first made his mark as a photographer and DP, before expanding his artful eye to creative consulting and directing commercials along with other branded projects. As a DP on music videos for a wide range of artists–The Stones, Madonna, Missy Elliot and Tom Petty–Bernard imbued each project with a distinctly cinematic look, spanning many styles and genres. Bernard’s talent for capturing beauty in its many forms and unexpected places has resulted in collaborations with top automobile makers, fashion and lifestyle brands.
“I try to create an emotion visually, and capture that through composition,” he explained. “The best photographs are able to evoke feeling through a single image, and that’s what I strive for in my film work.”
In speaking of joining The Bigger Picture, Bernard cited a shared philosophy of bringing depth of experience, passionate collaboration and an openness to embrace opportunities to forge unique ways to advance brand image through story.
Drawing him to the Bigger Picture in part was company founder/EP Tracy Mays whom he said is “really driven to make meaningful relationships by being a creative partner with clients to unlock what they need for engaging work. It’s not just about the moment, it’s thinking long-term. As a director, this allows me to focus on what I love to do while knowing that we’re building something exciting together.”
