The Peabody Awards board of jurors have selected 60 nominees that represent the most compelling and empowering stories released in electronic media during 2017. The nominees were selected from approximately 1,200 entries from television, radio/podcasts and the web. The Peabody Awards are based at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.
“True to tradition, we are proud to present a rich mix of excellence in the craft of storytelling,” said Jeffrey P. Jones, executive director of Peabody. “These stories reflect important social issues and exemplify the power of diverse voices and platforms in media today.”
Over the next several weeks, the winning Peabody 30 programs and content will be revealed in a succession of announcements by category: Documentary on April 17; Entertainment/Children’s & Youth on April 19; and News/Radio/Public Service programming on April 24. The first-ever Peabody Career Achievement Award presented by Mercedes-Benz will be announced on April 12.
Peabody Award winners and nominees will be celebrated at a gala evening event on Saturday, May 19, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. Hasan Minhaj, comedian, writer and senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” will serve as host. In April 2017, he hosted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C. Later this year, he will host his own weekly comedy show on Netflix. His comedy special, “Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King,” released on Netflix last year, is nominated for a Peabody Award.

Beyond being a world-class creative director and maker, Wassom is a proven team player and strategic thought leader. Heโll be a great addition to the leadership team at The Many working across all accounts. His role will be immediately felt as he guides and supports each of the creative leads in the department.โ
A 20-year creative with agency, brand, and freelance experience, Wassom has forged a creative approach which focuses on crafting engaging connections rather than simply make ads. He sees the need for advertising to mean more, not simply do more.
