McCann NY has appointed Pierre Lipton to serve as a global executive creative director. Lipton joins McCann from 360i where he served as chief creative officer. The hiring of Lipton follows McCann NY’s recent expansion of responsibilities on the Verizon business.
Lipton has more than a decade of experience developing award-winning campaigns, securing new business wins and reimagining the agency model. At 360i, Lipton played a key role in connecting the tech and creative departments, helping to spearhead the agency’s Innovation Group and establishing its XD capabilities. Before that, he was chief creative officer and founding partner of M&C Saatchi New York, which he joined as employee #2 and helped design from the ground up. He has also held positions at BBDO, Fallon and TBWA, where he helped launch the “In an Absolut World” campaign for Absolut Vodka.
At McCann Lipton will work closely with North American chief creative officer Eric Silver and McCann NY co-chief creative officers Sean Bryan and Tom Murphy.
The appointment of Lipton comes at a time of significant creative recognition and business growth for McCann NY which was named most effective agency by the 2017 North American Effie Awards, rising 12 spots from 2016. The latest honor follows being named Agency of the Year at the One Show; Agency of the Year and Digital Agency of the Year at the ADC Annual Awards; and Agency of the Year at the International ANDY Awards. McCann NY was also SHOOT’s Agency of the Year in 2016. The New York shop also recently expanded its relationship with MGM International Resorts, adding MGM’s regional resorts and casinos to its roster.
“I’ve watched McCann’s success for a while now; they’ve made me jealous over and over again,” said Lipton. “Their ability to do their best work for their biggest clients is incredible. I can’t wait to start.”
Rob Reilly, McCann Worldgroup’s global creative chairman, commented, “I have been a fan of Pierre for a long time. He has a history of doing great work across all mediums. He doesn’t shy away from the big challenges. And he is a great guy. That goes a long way here.”
