Moxie Pictures has signed directorial duo Dan & Antonio–Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini–for commercials and branded content globally. Dan & Antonio directed Dina which last month won the Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival.
Dina tells an unconventional yet true love story between an eccentric suburban woman named Dina and a Walmart door greeter, Scott. Moxie Pictures produced the feature documentary, with company principals Dan Levinson and Robert Fernandez serving as executive producers.
The title character of the film, Dina Buno, was a former student of Sickles’ father who worked as a Special Ed teacher. Filmmakers Sickles and Santini capture seamless vérité scenes that lovingly frame Dina and Scott’s vulnerable, yet matter-of-fact romance. Whether at the local nail salon, the warm beaches of Ocean City, Dina’s racy bachelorette party, or on honeymoon in the Poconos, Dina captures the cadences and candid conversations of a relationship that reexamines the notion of love on-screen.
Dina is the second feature documentary directed by Dan & Antonio. Their first, Mala Mala, looked at the lives of several young transsexual-identifying individuals in Puerto Rico. Mala Mala was nominated for both a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary and the Best Documentary Jury Award at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. Also at Tribeca, Mala Mala took 2nd place recognition in the Audience Award-Documentary competition.
