Director Michael Lawrence has joined bicoastal Epoch Films for representation in the U.S. He was previously handled by @radical.media in the American ad market and continues to be repped by Skin and Bones in Canada.
Lawrence has worked extensively in the U.S., Europe and Canada with commercials for such brands as ESPN, Nike (China), Google, Twitter (Canada) and New Era. His ad endeavors have earned recognition and awards from the ADCC, Applied Arts, Bessies and Communication Arts, among others.
Lawrence’s “Supernatural” spot for Mizuno engages on a level that is completely holistic by weaving high-energy flashes of breathtaking natural landscapes with footage of a superhuman runner in training. His CIBC campaign “In Her Shoes” follows a woman’s battle with breast cancer by using the camera from a first person perspective. Through her eyes, viewers experience the full arc of her story, from diagnosis through cancer treatment. The result is shockingly intimate and rife with emotion.
Lawrence, a Buffalo, NY native, came to Los Angeles by way of Indonesia, where he worked as a photographer focusing on gender rights and social causes in addition to cultivating his skills as a cinematographer. After relocating to California, Lawrence transitioned to directing full-time, creating music videos for the likes of Wiseblood, Dirty Beaches and Porcelain Raft.
Epoch is headed by founder Mindy Goldberg and executive producers Melissa Culligan and Youree Henley.
