Director Matthew Warchus’ Pride earned Best Film honors at the British Independent Film Awards. The gay rights drama also took Best Supporting Actor and Actress Awards for the performances of Andrew Scott and Imelda Staunton, respectively.
Yann Demange won Best Director for ‘71. Brendan Gleeson took Best Actor for Calvary while Gugu Mbatha-Raw was named Best Actress for Belle. Sameena Jabeen Ahmed was named most promising newcomer for her role in the thriller Catch Me Daddy.
Best International Film distinction went to director/writer Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. Next Goal Wins took the Best Documentary honor. The Karman Line was named Best Short.
Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard won for Best Debut Director on the basis of 20,000 Days on Earth. The film Frank earned Best Screenplay for Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, and Best Technical Achievement for Stephen Rennicks in the field of music. Best Achievement in Production went to the film The Goob.
Special honors of the night included The Raindance Award going to the fantasy drama Luna, The Richard Harris Award being bestowed upon Emma Thompson, The Variety Award to Benedict Cumberbatch, and the Special Jury Prize to John Boorman.
