The Cavalry Productions, headed by executive producers Ross Grogan and Chris Wedding, has signed director Ben DeJesus for exclusive representation in commercial and digital work. DeJesus’ endeavors span television, music videos, commercials, dvds and web content, primarily for the Latino market. DeJesus joins directors Gil Green, Bryce Gubler and Woodhead at the company.
DeJesus began his television work at MTV, working as an associate producer of MTV Cribs for three seasons. During his time at MTV, he also wrote and produced segments for various VJs and produced for VH1’s All Access. “I studied theater and journalism at Rutgers,” notes DeJesus. “In my early twenties, I thought I wanted to be on Broadway. One day, doing the usual grind, I realized that I wanted to be the one in charge rather than the one in line.”
Starting his own boutique production company, Dejesus immediately landed an ambitious ad campaign for Nickelodeon, delivering 25 spots to the network. He followed that up with spots for ESPN, MTV, TV Land, Nick@Nite, BET, SiTV among others. Recent spots credits for DeJesus include work for Claritin, Accent Energy, AT&T, Jack Daniels and Ford.
DeJesus’ co-direction of Don Omar’s hit “Reggaeton Latino” garnered media attention with its viusal and historical homage to Latino culture. MTV called the video “the anthem for the Reggaeton movement,” becoming one of the first Spanish language music videos ever to air on the channel. The director has since directed a number of videos for such artists as Fat Joe, NORE, Aventura, Nina Sky, Voltio, Xtreme, Malverde, I Wayne, Lil” Rob, Machel Montano, Doug E. Fresh and Chingo Bling.
DeJesus’ work on the web series Pitbull’s La Esquina became the most visited portion of MUN2’s website. The director has also produced over 20 DVD titles, including Aventura Live at Madison Square Garden.
