The Puma commercial “After Hours Athlete” and the Manchester Orchestra music video “Simple Math” took Grand Prix honors at the Ciclope International Advertising Craft Festival, part of an overall event which spanned three days (11/14-16) and drew more than 300 attendees from around the world. The awards competition drew some 350 entries.
Directed by Ringan Ledwidge via Smuggler and Rattling Stick for Droga5, New York, “After Hours Athlete” garnered the Grand Prix as well as Gold in the Direction category. The spot additionally earned Gold for editing and Silver for cinematography.
Winning the Grand Prix as well as Gold in Ciclope’s Video Clip category was “Simple Math” directed by the Daniels duo, a.k.a. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, of PRETTYBIRD.
Other Gold winners included: Jim Beam’s “Parallels” (produced by MJZ) in the Direction, Live-Action Art Direction and Cinematography categories; Call of Duty’s “There’s A Soldier In All Of Us” (MJZ) in the Direction category; Nokia’s “Gulp” (Aardman Animations) for Best Stop Motion Animation; DirecTV’s “Hot House” and Channel 4’s “Street Summer” (both from VFX studio MPC) which topped the Visual Effects category; Cadbury’s “Spots v Stripes” (MPC) and Coca-Cola’s “Siege” (Framestore) for Best 3D Animation, World of Coke’s “The Great Happyfication” (Psyop) for Best Animation Character Design; and Chobani’s “Snow Angels” (Hornet) in the Branded Content category.
Sessions, Summit
Ciclope also was marked by varied sessions, including a presentation by Wieden+Kennedy on the lauded Nike “Write The Future” campaign, a look and insights into this year’s AICP Next Award winners, a workshop on The Mill‘s work process, and the World Producers Summit.
The latter was presented by Matt Miller, president/CEO of the AICP, and Francois Chilot, president of CFP-E, generating a lively discussion on and debate over industry issues, with status reports on the state of the business in different countries.
