Andreas Nilsson of Biscuit Filmworks won the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award recognizing Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials for 2024. The honor was announced and celebrated during the gala 77th DGA Awards ceremony on Saturday evening (2/8) at the Beverly Hilton.
This marked the second career DGA Award in the commercials category for Nilsson. He first won the honor in 2016. He’s been nominated a total of three times (the other nod coming last year).
This time around, Nilsson won on the strength of four entries; Hennessy’s “Board Game” out of Wieden+Kennedy London; Andrex’s “First Office Poo” for FCB London; the client-direct Apple commercial “One More”; and Virgin Media’s “Whizzer” for VCCP London.
Nilsson topped a field of nominees which also consisted of: Lance Acord from Park Pictures; Kim Gehrig of Somesuch; the directorial duo of Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim from PRETTYBIRD; and Ivan Zacharias of SMUGGLER.
Gehrig had won the DGA Award each of the past two years.
Acord’s latest nomination is the fifth of his career (his four prior nods coming in 2004, 2012, 2013 and 2017).
Zacharias has two career nominations, the first coming in 2023.
And Heidecker & Wareheim picked up their very first DGA Award nomination this year.
