BLOK–a directing duo consisting of Paul Casey and Richard Jobson–has joined the roster of production house Chromista for U.S. representation spanning commercials and branded content.
BLOKโs ability to masterfully execute memorable funny commercials is informed by their past individual experiences creating comedy series across the world for the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Sky, and Netflix. Their comedic taste and filmmaking vocabulary stem from similar roots in long-form content, rising up the ranks from runners to researchers, assistant producers, producers, and eventually working directors and showrunners before teaming up as BLOK in 2019.
BLOKโs capacity for shaping fully formed worlds has led them to many opportunities directing commercial campaigns for brands like Pepsi, McDonaldโs, Carlsberg, Hendrickโs Gin, Opel, Deliveroo, Shiner, Walkers and many more. Prior to connecting with Chromista, BLOK was most recently repped by production company Easy Mondays. The directorsโ body of work also includes a narrative-based music video for British MC Novelist for his song โNo Weapons/See Me.โ Recently, BLOK directed a dark, satirical short film, A Dishonourable Death At Twenty-Seven Minutes Past Six. Set in 1837, the film explores varying degrees of prejudice and the warped, masculine perception of heroism and honor.
In a joint statement, BLOK said of joining Chromista, โWhat to sayโฆ right from the off, it felt like the right fit for us. The guys are such impressive operators with a pretty unique take on things and how the marketโs changing…and we were keen to find the right home for ourselves in the U.S. with a production company that had a really clear plan for us. That was super important. Adina (partner & EP Birnbaum], Ted [co-founder & EP Robbins], and Justin [EP Pollock] have that in spades. They get what we are trying to do and the direction we are moving inโฆ theyโre a lot of fun, too, which helps! Weโre well excited to get going with them.โ
Robbins added, โWhen you meet Paul and Richard, you just come away with one thought, โdamnโฆthese guys are freaking funny.โ Naturally. Instinctively. They have that gift of humor that just makes you pissed off you werenโt friends with them in high school. But more than that, they have amazing film craft skills. They understand our process from ideation to delivery, and when you put those skills together, well, you have movie magic. I am so thrilled to have them a part of our family and just canโt wait to laugh myself out of the chair on set with them.โ
