Golden LA has added filmmaker Courtni Poe to its roster of directorial talent. This marks her first signing for commercial representation.
Formerly a touring professional dancer and choreographer, Poe saw her creative life eventually lead to directing and photography with the inception of GASP ZINE during the global pandemic. She served as the founder and editor-in-chief of GASP ZINE, a print publication and gallery dedicated to showcasing artists nationwide. This venture also led her to a formative artistic mentorship working alongside David LaChapelle. Her previous career as a choreographer greatly influences her ability to direct talent and sculpt emotionally provocative performances. Poeโs films continually blur the lines between intimate storylines and captivating imagery, engaging audiences on multiple levels.
Poe collaborated and led movement direction on a large-scale campaign for Truly with David LaChapelle and starring Dua Lipa. This kickstarted Poeโs career in commercial filmmaking. She went on to helm many ads for brands like Nike, White Claw, Hilton, and a Tag Heuer film starring pro tennis player Naomi Osaka. Poeโs branded documentary Human Touch, made for Dermalogica, follows female prisoners who are restricted from most physical contact as they train for jobs in skincare and beauty. A testament to her ability as a director, Poe has already booked her first soon-to-be- announced job since joining Golden LA.
โGoldenโs support of my multi-hyphenate artistry is very valuable to me,โ said Poe. โIโm excited about the consistency of high-energy projects theyโve supported. My style needs support like that, so I knew it would be a great place to call home. I am so thankful for how much they nurture who I am and only offer love, support, and excitement for where Iโm going. It genuinely feels like the perfect fit!โ
Matthew Marquis, director and executive producer at Golden LA, added, โCourtni Poe has an innate, clear vision as a director. Her work is infectiously watchable and grabs you from the other side of the screen. She is an artist in every sense of the word. She has shown an undeniable commitment to constantly evolving as a rising voice in the industry, soon to be an unstoppable force in advertising and much more.โ
