    Toronto Film Fest Sets 5 More World Premieres–From Canada, France, India, the U.K. and U.S.

    TORONTO --

    The Toronto International Film Festival, set for September 5-15, has announced five more world premiere titles from internationally acclaimed filmmakers, and which feature stories from Canada, France, India, the U.K. and the U.S.

    The lineup unveiled today consists of: Eden, a survival thriller based on true events about the lengths we will go to in pursuit of a better life, directed by Ron Howard, written by Halifax-born Noah Pink and starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas and Sydney Sweeney; K-POPS, a dramatic comedy that takes inspiration from eight-time Grammy Award winner Anderson .Paak’s own life, bridging family lineages and cultures; Shepherds, an adaptation of the Canadian novel “D’où viens tu, berger?,” which follows a young advertising executive who trades in his Montreal life to become a shepherd in France; Superboys of Malegaon, a film based on the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the town of Malegaon, India, and what happens when filmmaking and friendships collide; and We Live in Time, a highly anticipated romance starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield as a couple whose chance encounter changes their lives as they fall in love, build a home, start a family, and face difficult truths.

    Eden and Superboys of Malegaon are part of TIFF’s Gala program while K-POPS, Shepherds and We Live in Time are in the festival’s Special Presentation program.

    “I’m thrilled to share today’s list of world premiere films, featuring stories from around the world that highlight the scope and breadth of TIFF’s programming,” said Anita Lee, chief programming officer, TIFF. “We have a Canada/France co-production set in the French Alps, directed by a French Canadian auteur; a Seoul-set comedic debut from musician Anderson .Paak; a Bollywood glimpse into the vibrant film industry of Malegaon, India; a London-set love story starring Florence Pugh from an Irish director; and a highly original survival thriller that takes us to the Galapagos Islands from Ron Howard. I can’t wait for TIFF audiences to take these journeys on the big screen and be transported by cinema together this September.”

    More Toronto International Film Festival details will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for TIFF ’24 go on sale to TIFF members by level beginning on Friday, August 16. The full festival schedule will be released on Tuesday, August 13.

    “Challengers” Earns Actor-Producer Zendaya 2024 Gothams Spotlight Tribute

    Emmy Award-winner Zendaya will receive the Gotham Film & Media Institute’s Spotlight Tribute for her performance as Tashi Donaldson in the Luca Guadagnino-directed film Challengers, at the 34th edition of The Gothams, taking place live and in person on Monday, December 2, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

    The Spotlight Tribute was created by The Gotham in order to recognize phenomenal efforts by individuals in film and television who captivated global audiences with the biggest projects of the year. With the Spotlight Tribute, The Gotham will honor Zendaya’s remarkable work as leading-actress and producer on the Amazon MGM Studios box-office hit that broke into the cultural zeitgeist, and was celebrated by critics and audiences worldwide.

    “Zendaya’s magnetic portrayal of Tashi Donaldson in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers exemplifies the creative excellence that The Gotham celebrates,” said Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of The Gotham. “Her performances in Dune: Part One, Dune: Part Two, and Euphoria have made her one of the most captivating actors of her generation. Her multi-layered performance at the heart of Challengers earned widespread acclaim, including a nomination for Best Feature at this year’s Gothams. We look forward to honoring her work with our Spotlight Tribute.”
