B-Reel Films has signed directorial duo awesomenessness and individual helmer Lubos Vacke. This marks the first U.S. representation for both awesomenessness and Vacke.
Consisting of spouses Johanna and Kalle Hellzén, awesomenessness creates visually captivating and character-centric comedic works by infusing Artificial Intelligence into their creations, striking a balance between edgy and enchanting narratives.
“Becoming colleagues with the gang at B-Reel Films feels like coming home to us. Their trailblazing creativity in technology, art, and storytelling marries perfectly with our essence of ‘awesomeness’,” said Kalle Hellzén. “More than a collaboration, this is a reunion of like-minded pioneers eager to delve into the unknown.”
Kalle’s directorial debut, the Nike campaign “Let’s Talk Running” starring Paul Tergat, was a project that came to fruition during his time as an art director at Wieden + Kennedy. Kalle continued directing at Acne Production when he took on the position of creative director for its digital department and soon became partner upon the company’s transition to the U.S. This was followed by creative roles at GS&P, Toca Boca, R/GA, and 180, where he played a pivotal role in elevating the agency’s reputation for groundbreaking work.
Johanna, Kalle’s creative counterpart and life partner, leverages her media and legal background. She is also responsible for crafting the meticulous looks and worlds through generative AI, transforming their creative output into the distinctive visuals that encapsulate awesomeness’s signature style.
Outside of film, Kalle’s artistic ventures also extend to captivating oils, acrylics, and digital art.
Lubos Vacke
Vacke also joins the B-Reel Films’ directing roster. His films harmonize storytelling, comedic timing, performances, art direction, animation, and music. Vacke has worked with brands such as Nike, Canon, VW, Pepsi, and Zalando, earning recognition on the international stage. Vacke is also represented by Embassy in Prague and Stiker in the U.K.
“The email I received this summer from Michael McQuhae and Pelle Nilsson of B-Reel Films was a refreshing change. It wasn’t some ad promising guaranteed enlargement or yet another tweak needed on a finished project, but an invitation that had me eagerly anticipating our next interaction,” Lubos joked. “Beyond our shared perspective, I was genuinely captivated by their wealth of experience. The projects and vision that B-Reel Films champions align perfectly with my own beliefs and the direction I envision for the industry. I’m truly excited for the narratives we’ll craft together in this next chapter.”
A recent testament to his prowess is the acclaimed music video for dné, “Traps In My Feed.” Reflecting on the project, Lubos remarked, “A creative’s main working tool is their head. It’s a space where ideas are born and connections are made that sometimes even the head can’t contain. That’s the magic of creativity.” The video has already garnered significant recognition by securing an honorable mention for Best Music Video at the Independent Shorts Awards this year and clinching the Outstanding Achievement Award at the last Indie Short Fest in two categories: Music Video and Best Editing.
“Having known Kalle and Johanna for over 15 years, their amalgamation of storytelling, artistic vision, and tech innovation aligns perfectly with our vision,” remarks Nilsson, founder and partner of B-Reel Films. “And although my friendship with Lubos is relatively new, the excitement to represent such a skilled and modern storyteller is immense.”
