This year was an exciting and creatively challenging year for me as an editor. Editing various high profile campaigns and creative content including a Super Bowl spot for Xifaxan and two seasons of the web series Cop Show with Colin Quinn presented by Lexus. The project that stands out to me most was for the Today Show “Rokerthon 2” promo. The promo shows Today Show weather anchor Al Roker traversing the country to secure the Guinness World’s Record title for the fastest time ever reporting the weather from all 50 U.S. states. The challenge was to create a memorable and cinematic story in the style of a movie trailer while being informative and funny. I think a huge component to creating a spot like this is to have the correct pace and juxtaposition of scenes to keep the viewer guessing what will be next. The goal of the spot is to take the viewer on a cinematic journey. I think what makes a spot like this fun and challenging to edit is being able to play with the movie trailer genre elements, while also poking fun at ourselves and our idea. I find it tremendously gratifying to be on the ground floor of creating a spot like this. You are able to add so much to the storytelling and be a integral part of crafting the spot. The highlight for me was the spot won an 2016 Daytime Emmy Award as well as a 2016 Promax BDA Gold award.
