Yvette Cobarrubias, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the international post production company Cosmo Street, has been named Chairperson of the 2022 AICP Post Awards. The announcement was made by Matt Miller, President and CEO of AICP. The deadline to enter the AICP Post Awards, along with The AICP Show and the AICP Next Awards, which together comprise the full suite of AICP Awards competitions, is March 28, 2022. “Yvette is the perfect choice to lead the Post Awards this year,” said Miller. “She has a long history of leadership in the industry and at AICP, from her serving on the West Regional and the National Board of Directors to her role with our various committees and her co-founding of the AICP Women’s Forum. At Cosmo Street, she’s played a key role in nurturing and promoting some of our industry’s most talented editors and artists, and her company’s work has won awards in just about every advertising competition in existence.”

“I’m unbelievably honored,” said Cobarrubias of her selection as the Post Awards Chairperson, who is selected by the AICP Post Awards Executive Committee. “I’ve worked hard to make a difference in our industry, so being asked by people I greatly respect and love is a real career highlight for me. I see the Post Awards as another example of the AICP’s significant work in the inclusion of post production. It’s a recognition of our voices, our perspective and the integral part we play in the process.”

While this show is in its 21st year honoring the best of the post production crafts, Cobarrubias is only the second person to serve as Chair for the AICP Post Awards; she succeeds Chris Franklin of Big Sky Edit, who led the judging of the competition in 2020 and 2021. “Chris did a remarkable job of selecting some incredible people to focus on the craft and the art of post production, from editing to effects, graphics, color and audio,” she added. “ While I intend to mix things up a bit, I’ll happily follow his lead, as he’s one of the preeminent editors in the world.” 

Cobarrubias launched Cosmo Street over 20 years ago with Editor Tom Scherma as a small boutique. Along with Partner and EP Maura Woodward on its leadership team, they expanded into an internationally-recognized creative powerhouse with five bicoastal locations, a sister company in London and a diverse roster of 30-plus innovative and acclaimed artists. With an expansive offering of post services that includes editorial, VFX, color, graphics, and audio, its work has been recognized with honors from the AICP Show and Post Awards, the One Show, the Clio Awards, Cannes Lions and many other competitions. In addition to its extensive roster of agency and brand clients, Cosmo Street has made a name for itself in short films, features, documentaries, music videos and TV series. 

As leader of a company that’s a multiple award-winner itself, Cobarrubias knows the value of being recognized by one’s peers. She feels that among all the trophies Cosmo Street has won, there’s something special about earning one at the AICP Post Awards. “Winning here stands out, not only because of the high quality of the work and the insanely smart and creative people who serve as judges, but the fact that it is truly focused on the craft of post production,” she stated. “Having been involved with this show for 20-plus years, I can vouch for the integrity of the process and the pride that comes from winning.”
