Mikko Timonen–an alumnus of SHOOT’s 2020 18th New Directors Showcase for his short film Silk City–has helmed Memory Palace, a film for the Boston Ballet produced by No Frames.
Timonen teamed with noted choreographer Jorma Elo, the Boston Ballet company, dancers Viktorina Kapitonova and Tigran Mkrtchyan, and the No Frames creative team on the piece which uses dance to portray the intimacy of a lifelong relationship between two people, exploring themes of love, loss, passion and heartache. Memories are shown out of order, as if the characters are floating through a vivid dream.
Through choreography, texture, color of the environment and camera composition, each scene was designed to draw distinction between a memory that was vibrant versus moments that felt like the characters were drifting away from one another in a vast abyss.
Timonen is a founding creative partner of No Frames and No Frames Europe. His work spans commercial campaigns, music videos and original narrative content.
