RadicalMedia has added French-Australian writer and director Beatrice Pegard to its directorial roster for U.S. representation spanning commercials, branded content and music videos.
Pegard has always been drawn to the interplay between science and art, a distinctive combination that shines through her narrative, music video, and commercial work. Her aesthetic for imagery and storytelling comes from a blend of surrealism, nostalgia and comedy. Pegard’s acclaimed music video for Grizzly Bear’s “Mourning Sound” reflects this style as she uses the catchy, mellow beats as a vehicle to portray female empowerment through fantastical and subtly comedic imagery. The video earned her nominations at the 1.4 Awards for Up-and-Coming Director and Best Music Video, and garnered press in major publications, such as Rolling Stone, for her unique take on the song. Other awards and nominations include recognition from the British Film Institute, The One Show, Ciclope, and Berlin MVAs.
“Once we saw the unique work that Beatrice was doing around the world we knew we wanted her to join us. Her work is so wonderfully her that it was a no brainer. Once we all met her, we knew how special she was and we are thrilled to continue her journey in the U.S.,” said Frank Scherma, RadicalMedia president and EP.
Pegard said, “I am so thrilled to join RadicalMedia’s incredible roster and amazing team, which has always been such an inspiration to me. I often go by Dolly Parton’s ‘find out who you are, and do it on purpose’ mantra and know that RadicalMedia will let me thrive and flourish to do exactly that. I cannot wait to go on this journey with them, which I know will be filled with fun, wonder and exciting, high quality work,” said director Beatrice Pegard
Additionally, Pegard is a firm believer in sustainable filmmaking, which she applies to her creative process whenever possible, and provides green toolkits and advice geared towards lowering carbon footprint, sustainable film production and waste reduction. Pegard received an MA and a PhD in political and environmental sciences before joining the Sydney Film School.
Prior to joining RadicalMedia, Pegard was repped in the U.S. by production house Hobby, which continues to handle her in Sweden.
Immersion In Sight, Sound and Story At Sphere
Live sports and cinematic storytelling meshed earlier this month (9/14) at Sphere, the revolutionary new entertainment venue in Las Vegas. UFC 306, Sphere’s first live sports event, brought mixed martial arts boxing matches together with the world premiere of a film--For Mexico, For All Time--which played out in six 90-second chapters in between the bouts on the UFC pay-per-view card. Each chapter focused on a different period in Mexican history and its influence on shaping Mexican identity. Shown on the massive interior display of Sphere, For Mexico, For All Time was created by filmmaker Carlos López Estrada and produced by Valerie Bush via Antigravity Academy, and co-produced by Nexus Studios. Sound designer, supervising sound editor and lead re-recording mixer Drazen Bosnjak and his team at New York-headquartered Q Department brought their creative and technical wherewithal to For Mexico, For All Time, dovetailing with the sound ensemble at Sphere and indie composer Germaine Franco. They contributed to what turned out to be the highest grossing UFC event of all time, and the highest grossing single event at Sphere, playing before a sold out crowd of 16,024. López Estrada, whose work as writer-director on Raya and the Last Dragon earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film in 2022, described For Mexico, For All Time as “a larger-than-life project,” referring to its size and scope--on varied fronts. For one, Sphere houses the world’s highest resolution LED display coupled with a 167,000 speaker audio system, facilitating an immersive multi-sensory experience. López Estrada’s studio, Antigravity Academy, had a steep learning curve relative to the process of creating and producing a film that... Read More
