Barrett, the agency under the aegis of founder and executive creative director Jamie Barrett, has hired Melissa Macarian as creative director/art director and Julie Blakley as creative director/copywriter.
Macarian’s responsibilities will include overseeing the Activision and Chime accounts, as well as new business. Macarian comes to Barrett from Camp+King, where as creative director she brought creative campaigns to life for global clients including RE/MAX, Papa Johns and Energizer. As the creative lead on Energizer, she brought the beloved Bunny brand icon back out in the world to parody pop culture moments and oversaw the launch of the Energizer Bunny’s very own Twitter account. Her work has been recognized by the Effie Awards.
Blakley comes to Barrett from Doremus, and has also worked at Eleven, David&Goliath, and Edelman. Her Barrett responsibilities include overseeing the Sutter Health, eBay and Bitly accounts and new business.
While ACD at Edelman, Blakley was the creative lead on the Taco Bell account and responsible for opening the crowd-pleasing and headline-grabbing Taco Bell Hotel in Palm Springs. She’s also gone undercover with Jerry Rice for Lyft, designed a shoe for Virgin America, recreated an iconic scene for The Terminator, made international news for pranking the city of London, run social media for a fake airline called Blah and created gifs that have been downloaded more than 100 million times.
“Julie and Melissa are two incredibly talented creative leaders we’ve admired for a long time,” Barrett said. “They’ll be a huge part of not only our work but our culture as our agency continues to grow.”
