iSPOT took a brief break from the hard news in the broadband advertising industry this week to watch a funny film, which happened to have been created by an advertising agency whose work we’ve covered. Unflinching Triumph: The Philip Rockhammer Story, is an unflinching triumph for AKQA, which bucked the establishment by creating the film without the help of a major studio and released it on the Internet without a distributor. The film takes broadband video in a new direction because it demonstrates that it can include original feature length content that isn’t replayed from other media. Our dual iChat includes conversations with PJ Pereira, executive creative director at AKQA, and Mark Decena, director at Kontent Films.
One of our news stories covers Blinkx, the video search engine that covers seven million hours of video content from major media and user generated sites. The opportunity for video advertising here seems huge, as if Blinkx could become the Google of video search. But the company has been slow to incorporate advertising onto its site and leaves it to syndication partners who thus far have only run text based ads, like a typical search engine. We’ll be watching for further developments here.
Be sure to notify us about the developments at your company. If you’re making news we want to know about it.
