The 50th anniversary of Earth Day fell during an historic year, with the majority of would-be attendees under ‘stay at home’ COVID-19 restrictions. Among the largest environmental film festivals in the US, EarthxFilm, nonetheless celebrated the event by holding their annual Earthx2020 conference and festivals online from April 22 (officially Earth Day) through April 27.
EarthXR, the immersive programming division of EarthxFilm, showcased groundbreaking 360-degree films and free-to-watch panels packed with experts on all things VR, AR and AI. Attendees and speakers included the co-founders of “Wild Immersion, endorsed by Jane Goodall” and VR directors Adrien and Gregoire Moisson; Kris Severson, Head of Global Content, HTC Vive/VR for Impact; Sarah Steele, Global Content Lead, Google/YouTube; Lucas Gath, co-director of Ghost Fleet VR; Ian Urbina, NYT bestselling author of “The Outlaw Ocean”; Damien Mounder, Founder International Anti-Poaching Foundation/Subject of NatGeo’s Akashinga: The Brave Ones, Ulrico Grech-Cumbo, Director of the Ellen Fund’s Gorillapallooza VR, and many more.
In this time of crisis, as event marketing teams navigate hosting their previously-scheduled programming virtually, EarthXR’s live stream format where visitors could pick and choose their “channels” via URL, according to a master schedule, gave attendees a feeling of variety second only to wandering between conference rooms and stages that they might have experienced at the live event in Dallas.
