Coming off directing an episode of the much-anticipated Party of Five reboot, Jenée LaMarque has joined Altered.LA and its eclectic roster of directors. Jenée is a Latinx filmmaker who grew up in Claremont, California and graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in English with a creative writing emphasis in poetry. She received her M.F.A in Screenwriting from The American Film Institute.
Jenée’s short film, Spoonful, screened at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Her feature film directorial debut (of her own 2011 Black Listed script), The Pretty One, starring Zoe Kazan, Jake Johnson and Frankie Shaw, premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and sold to Sony Worldwide Acquisitions. The film won Best Narrative Feature and Jenée won Best Director at the Savannah Film Festival. The Pretty One was released theatrically in 2014.
Jenée’s second feature The Feels, starring Constance Wu, Angela Trimbur, and Ever Mainard, premiered at the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival and was sold to Gravitas Ventures. The Feels won Best US Narrative Feature at Newfest and actress Ever Mainard won Best Actress awards at Outfest, Long Beach Q, and Out at the Movies. The Feels was released in March 2018 and is currently streaming on Netflix.
Most recently, Jenée has been directing for television. Her TV directing work includes: an episode of Sorry for Your Loss for Facebook Watch, multiple episodes of Starz' Vida, and co-writing and directing three episodes of the HBO series Room 104 for the show’s third and fourth seasons.
Marcos Cline, Founder and Executive Producer at Altered.LA said, “We’re incredibly fortunate to have a director with Jenée’s skillset join our team. Her storytelling background and uncanny ability to capture real emotions, not to mention her unique background in poetry, give her a matchless POV which will undoubtedly raise the bar as she expands her career into advertising."
Jenée is currently adapting the feature version of Charlie Jane Anders’ Hugo Award-winning short story “Six Months, Three Days” for Big Beach. She will direct the film in early 2020.
