Lola Lott, charlieuniformtango principal/CEO, announced the company has moved its Austin studio location from downtown to a new space at 4004 Marathon Boulevard, Austin, Texas, 78756. The studio can still be reached by calling 512-499-8790.
charlieuniformtango, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, was one of the first full-service production and post houses in Austin, and has navigated the ever-changing industry and market there for more than eighteen years. “We’re all so grateful for the support of our Austin clients–many of whom have been with us since we opened our doors. Our new facilities will help us offer this market even more resources in the years ahead,” said Lola Lott.
Tango’s new approximately 3,500-square-foot building is located in the historic Rosedale neighborhood – among local mainstays like Uchiko, the original Kerby Lane Cafe, Taco Deli, The Draught House Pub and category leaders like Bumble and Kendra Scott. Well-known architect Pat Murphy of SeifertMurphy guided the complete renovation of the building, working alongside Todd Lott, David Hannah and the tango team. SeifertMurphy is the recipient of over 30 design awards from the Texas Society of Architects, the Dallas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and other organizations. The firm’s work has been celebrated for “creating environments where architecture, interiors, and the landscape come together to form an integrated and coherent whole.” Main partners beyond SeifertMurphy include FW Construction (Aaron Somers/Matt Dunnam) and GroundZero (Roy Howell) and Mark Genfan.
In describing the project, Pat Murphy stated the process was, “A total conversion of a homely medical/law office building into a vibrant new studio space that reflects the culture of charlietango and the energy of Austin. Using inspiration from tango’s existing offices in Dallas and Austin, we blended multiple elements to create a new kind of office environment.
“We were guided by three key objectives: 1. Make It Welcoming – We focused a lot of attention on the design of the entrance and front-of-house spaces, which include an inviting entry, front porch, lobby, and lounge area. Continuity from the parking lot to the office spaces was achieved by connecting the outdoors with the interior via a retractable floor-to-ceiling glass wall. Visitors are welcomed at the entry by a spacious front porch and custom canopy structure. Once inside, the inviting lobby space is flooded with natural light. 2. Keep It Real – Throughout the studio, we utilized locally sourced pecan plank feature walls and an oversized wood plank entry door. Todd selected a sky blue paint color for the common area ceiling, which is reminiscent of the blue once utilized on Texas country porches to help keep bugs away. Eco/Green features were integral parts of the plan: electric car charging, integrated recycling, and reusing as much of the existing building elements as possible–plumbing fixtures, doors, concrete floors, and wood trim. 3. Make It Work – The studio’s efficient, hard-working plan is composed of an open lobby/break/reception space, five custom-designed creative suites, a conference room, an audio suite, restrooms, and two “cubby” spaces that provide private work stations for visitors.
Every office space, other than the Online Room, is provided with natural light: skylights in the conference space and floor-to-ceiling glass in the front AVID space. (The Online Room is isolated from natural light for video editing purposes.) All the spaces are connected via one continuous corridor that extends from the front lobby to the rear parking lot. I think we’re all delighted with the results,” says Pat.
The new studio’s advanced technology includes:
- 2 Autodesk Flame systems
- 3 Avid MediaComposer/Adobe Premiere suites
- 1 Audio ProTools mixing suite and recording booth designed by Mark Genfan
- 50TB’s of shared storage
- MPC Virtual Telecine
- Full live-action production services
