Big Block, a creative content services company, today announced that Cale Glendening has joined their roster of directors, bringing experience from Google, Red Bull, Cholula, ESPN, Animal Planet and Mazda. Glendening will bring a worldly perspective to Big Block, having traveled the globe and filming on 5 continents in more than 40 countries. The renown director is known for completely immersing himself in his work, and has been tattooed by indigenous rainforest tribes, dined with cannibals along the Ganges River, and hunted with Kazakh-Mongolia Eagle Hunters in the remote Altai Mountains.
“The passion that Cale brings to the table is an inspiration to the entire team,” said Kenny Solomon, Executive Managing Director at Big Block. “His recent project with Mazda also proves his expertise in the space, and will be integral to the future of Big Block as we continue our extensive work in the automotive industry.”
Glendening recently worked on a Mazda film project, which featured cutting-edge compound lighting techniques, where lights were flown from drones and ziplines, and HMIs were put into the back of moving vehicles. This type of forward-thinking is a recipe for success when it comes to branded content, and will complement the current Big Block portfolio.
“My main goal is to discover and film the places and rare situations that most will never get to witness,” said Cale Glendening. “Whether it be for short films or brands, I am drawn towards making content that empowers and inspires people to truly make a difference in the world.”
Glendening has also written and directed a pilot for Kevin Costner; a self-funded short film titled Why You Don’t Send Nudes that premiered at the Nashville film festival, and he is also in development on a feature film he’s written called Solitary, that details the injustices of solitary confinement.
“Cale brings a cinematic, innovative approach to filmmaking – he’s constantly experimenting and pushing the boundaries,” says Jennette Maclachlan, Executive Producer at Big Block. “He is a natural storyteller with a deep connection with humanity, which is essential in the future of making content that people can connect with outside of traditional advertising.”
Big Block has produced campaigns for a variety of automotive manufacturers, including BMW, Hyundai, Subaru, Lexus, Toyota, Buick, Mini Cooper and most recently, the new Ford F-150 campaign. Subnation, an entertainment platform celebrating the esports lifestyle and a Big Block Capital Group investment, also recently did an experiential marketing activation with Volkswagen and Marvel at the E3 gaming convention.
