Bang Zoom! Studios Founder and CEO, Eric P. Sherman, announced that the creative team from the audio post facility recently took home two awards during the 44th Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy’s held on April 28, 2017 for their work on “Lost in Oz: Extended Adventure” on Amazon Prime Video. The studio earned awards for Outstanding Sound Mixing – Animation and "Outstanding Sound Editing – Animation.”
“We were excited just to be nominated in these categories, considering who some of the contenders were,” said Sherman. Bang Zoom! Studios was competing against talent from shows such as DreamWorks’ “Trollhunters” and “Dragons: Race to the Edge” both on Netflix as well as “Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness” on Nickelodeon. Sherman continued, “But to win was both a surprise and an honor.” The nominations and wins were the first for the studio.
Patrick Rodman, Chief Engineer at Bang Zoom! Studios, who is credited as a Sound Supervisor along with Sherman, echoed the sentiments, “I was blown away because we were looked at as the underdog in this arena.” No stranger to winning Emmy’s, Rodman garnered two back in the ‘90s for his work on “The New Batman/Superman Adventures” and “The Adventures of Batman and Robin” for Warner Brothers. He expressed his thoughts about the win by saying, “Everyone involved in this show put their heart and soul into it, cared about the development of the characters and worked to create a world that remained true to the story, which is perceptible to anyone who watches it.”
Ken Duer, Supervising Producer at Bureau of Magic, the company that produces “Lost in Oz,” was equally as happy about the wins. “Everyone at Bang Zoom! Studios is incredibly talented,” he asserted. “Eric and his team were my first and only choice for this project and I am so proud of the work they did that helped our show gain such recognition.”
In addition to Rodman and Sherman, the other team members who contributed to the show and its win are Dialogue Editor James Scullion; ADR Editor Ricky Watson; Sound Effects Editors Justin Kohler and Eric Paulsen; and Foley Mixers Tony Solis and Dicken Berglund.
