Director Randy Krallman, best known for his comedy work, has come aboard bicoastal Smuggler. He comes over from bicoastal HSI Productions, his first production company roost, which he joined in 2004. A year later, he gained inclusion in Saatchi & Saatchi’s New Directors Showcase presented at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
Krallman’s industry roots are in agency soil. He had a brief stint as an art director at Lowe, New York. Later he made his first directorial mark at MTV’s on-air promotions department. While there, Krallman and Aaron Stoller (now a director at Backyard Productions, Venice, Calif.) co-directed a series of promos that presented MTV as the greatest network, paralleling its accomplishments to varied professions, no matter how mundane. For instance, in “Salesman,” an Alec Baldwin voiceover compares MTV to the best industrial supplies sales rep in the tri-state area.
Krallman also served as a creative at Berlin Cameron/Red Cell, New York, where he primarily worked on Coca-Cola and had occasion to direct an ad for the soft drink company’s music site. Titled “Flossin,” the spot was a send up of the MTV show Cribs.
This mix of agency and MTV work caught the eye of HSI, which added him to its directorial roster. Krallman has since helmed primarily humor-based commercials for such clients as Burger King, ESPN, Boost Mobile and HBO. The latter was a campaign promoting that network’s series, Entourage; agency on the job was BBDO New York.
