Bicoastal music shop Butter Music and Sound has signed sr. composer/creative director Mike MacAllister. Coming to Butter from Human Music & Sound, MacAllister has composed commercials for numerous brands including Xbox, McDonald’s, Apple, Google, and the NFL. Career highlights include scribing the “Touch and Feel of Cotton” song, recently performed by Camila Belle, creating the score to the 3D light show during Nike’s kickoff party for Carmelo Anthony’s M8 Sneakers on Pier 54, and composing the theme for Encore Channel.
Boston-born MacAllister satisfied his passion for music at an early age by flexing his skills in neighborhood garage bands. He continued his musical training by attending after-school programs for inner city youth at the New England Conservatory of Music and Berklee College of Music. After college, he moved to New York with lofty goals of earning a Master’s Degree and attaining success as a jazz artist. Instead, he got a gig as a production assistant and, shortly thereafter, as a composer for Human. In addition to his commercial work, he has composed music for a number of films and documentaries including In the Spirit of Laxmi and Freakonomics, both of which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
MacAllister regularly performs with two bands, Clementine & The Galaxy, an electro-pop duo with vocalist Julie Hardy, and the indie rock band Wishes and Thieves.
