A cavalcade of some of the world's most lauded musicians pop onscreen in director Paul Trillo's interactive music video for “Best Day of My Life.” Part of Shell's larger #makethefuture campaign out of creative agency Interlude, the vibrant candy-colored film kick-starts an 'energy relay' for cleaner initiatives along with announcing the mega-artists tapped as Shell's energy ambassadors.
The thrilling line-up of musical talents includes Oscar®-winner Jennifer Hudson, Brazilian singer Luan Santana, British performer Pixie Lott, American DJ/Producer Steve Aoki, China’s pop star Tan WeiWei and Nigerian idol Yemi Alade. All six artists will be teaming up with energy entrepreneurs to help shine a light on the worldwide need for access to cleaner energy. Set to a cover of “Best Day of My Life,” originally recorded by American Authors, Paul Trillo's video captures vignettes of each artist performing within their own color-schemed hexagonal tile.
Each of six “hives” represents a different energy system (Bio-Bean, Capture Mobility, GravityLight, Shell Eco-Marathon, MotionECO and Pavegen), which is deftly summarized within the musician’s own segment. A broader view of the interconnected “beehive” makes up a life-size diorama that demonstrates how the systems are best used together for a more sustainable future.
“The project was an exciting intersection between three things that I love yet never before thought would intersect: great music, environmental causes and doing something a little outside of the box,” comments Trillo. “When Interlude approached me with the idea, I was immediately on board. The collaborative process with their team and all of the problem solving that went into creating this modular project was extremely rewarding. I'm thrilled with the outcome and to be able to introduce these new energy innovations to the greater public in a visually exciting way.”
Technologies from the bright energy businesses will be showcased in Rio de Janeiro’s Santa Marta favela this month, before they are installed in communities that require urgent access to cleaner energy. Shell and its ambassadors are inviting people to show support for the project and to help bring solar power to communities and homes in Brazil by signing the pledge at www.shell.com/showyoursupport.
