Visual Connections returns to New York on Thursday, October 27th to stage another free discovery, networking and education event exclusively for buyers and commissioners of footage, photography and illustration. The venue will again be Metropolitan Pavilion, conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan.
Thirty-five exhibitors – half – of this year’s line-up, license or produce motion. The once clear division is dissolving, with more and more agencies, reps, production houses, editors, buyers, and creative/art directors and producers working with both video and still images.
The mid-afternoon session focuses on the specific challenges of shooting material for mixed media campaigns. The panel includes Darryl Estrine, a highly accomplished creative director and filmmaker; Tyron Barrington, a fashion producer and casting director; and Erica Chadwick, managing partner of ETC Creative, representing photographers and videographers. Discussion will be moderated by Sheri Radel Rosenberg, a freelance art producer.
This event is a unique opportunity for visual professionals to find creative inspiration and new providers of assignment and stock visual media; to pick up tips about legal issues, trends and new resources; and network with peers from leading creative and editorial companies.
Twenty-two of the seventy exhibitors are new to Visual Connections New York and represent the full gamut of stock and commissioned motion, photography and illustration. They include artist reps ETC Creative, Illustration USA, Renee Rhyner, and Robert Bacall Reps; 360° panoramas specialist 360Cities; movie and TV archives British Film Institute, British Pathรฉ and CNN Collection; user-generated content specialists EyeEm, Newsflare and Scopio; research tools from Capture, DMLA, Footage.net and Stockindexonline; and many other stock agencies. The ever-popular annual Keynote Q&A session will focus on the issues surrounding publishing and sourcing visual content on social media platforms. The panel includes two intellectual property attorneys, Nancy Wolff and Bob Stein, with interestingly different perspectives.
The final session is with guest speaker Anna G. Dickson from Google, who will be talking about the difficulties of sourcing relevant visual media to tight deadlines, despite – or possibly because of – there being so much material to choose from.
