First Commercial Production Home for Visual Storytelling Director
Much to the delight of those who know her well, Director Rachel McDonald has landed at Über Content, as her first DGA Commercial Production Company home. Captivating the world through her stunning visuals, McDonald’s recent directing work includes projects for Samsung, H&M, Motorola, Nick Fouquet Hats, West Elm, the Special Olympics and her latest music video for rising country star Ashley Monroe.
McDonald has already spearheaded a number of projects through Über Content. Her Über directorial debut includes a 3-spot, just completed Pampers #betterforbaby campaign for Saatchi & Saatchi NY, as well as a multi-spot & social content package for cosmetics brand E.L.F via Lisa B Creative, in Austin, TX.
The choice to join Über Content as her commercial directing home was a natural fit for both McDonald and Über Content Executive Producer/Owner Phyllis Koenig. “During my first meeting with Rachel, she made it clear that she had been taking her time trying to figure out who she believed she could best connect with. I felt a symbiotic creative pull towards her…She has a magnetism that’s undeniable,” says Koenig. “Rachel is a director who has an eye for beautiful imagery and a gift for picking the perfect moment when telling a story. She just has the ability to find that special nugget of authentic emotion…the combination of all of those talents was extremely inspiring to me” continues Koenig. “At the same time, she also has that discerning eye and sensibility to elicit strong performances from both real people and SAG actors. A fine line to walk, indeed very impressive.”
“Once I met with Phyllis, I knew I had found the right home at Über Content…we connected instantly on a personal and professional level that’s often hard to find in this industry,” McDonald adds. “I have always been impressed with not just their work, but their dedication to the filmmaking process and now the support for my voice as a director. Über Content supports the path that I want to take my career and are willing to help me get there…we’re already doing great work together.”
A native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, McDonald also brings with her a depth of knowledge from a strong feature film production background. Gleaning her experience shadowing directors on high profile Hollywood features including The Mist and I Love You Man among others. McDonald broke away to focus on a passion she developed – directing. She has since channeled this long-form experience into her work as a director, infusing commercials, social action campaigns, music videos and short films with her brand of emotional depth, visual rhythm, and style.
