Lars Makie has joined Yessian’s Detroit studio as music supervisor/producer, bringing with him over a decade of post-production experience working at places such as Mad River Post and most recently Whitehouse Post in Chicago as a senior assistant editor and music supervisor. In this time, he has worked on a number of projects and brands including McDonald’s, Hallmark, US Cellular, Chevy, Maxwell House and Ford.
A Detroit native, Lars is a graduate of the University of Michigan. Stints in bands as a bass player and drummer while attending University saw him touring the states during summers playing in basements and bars. After graduating, Lars spent a year backpacking around Europe, but found himself drawn back to Detroit where he got a job as assistant buyer for the famed Detroit record store, Harmony House. Realizing there might not be a future in selling $20 Britney Spears CDs, Lars leaped at a chance to work at the post-production house Postique.
Lars joins Yessian after having spent the last 9.5 years in Chicago with Whitehouse Post. It’s here where he realized his talent for placing the right music to fit under national commercials that Whitehouse Post worked on. Lars has placed music under spots for many clients and was responsible for pairing “I’m Alive” by Johnny Thunder for Diehard Battery with Y&R Chicago, and most recently “Hello Sunshine” by Jimmy Cliff for Corona with Cramer-Krasselt.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the team at Yessian. I’ve been impressed with the quality, talent and integrity of Yessian for years; since my time in the Detroit post market. I always felt that if I was going to come back home to Detroit it was very important to do it with a company whose ambitions and goals were aligned with mine, and with Yessian I’ve definitely found it. I’m enthusiastic about helping continue Yessian’s award-winning global positioning in sound and music as well as using connections from my years in Chicago to further strengthen their Midwest presence.”
Makie will be based out of Yessian’s Detroit facility working on projects around the globe. While focusing on the work in the Detroit and Chicago markets, he will collaborate with Yessian’s offices in New York, LA and Germany.
“Lars’ experience in the industry is a valuable asset to our approach. Not only does he compliment our existing framework, but he also brings extensive knowledge in artist integration and new music platforms. We’re excited that Lars decided to make the move back to Detroit and join the team.” Says Michael Yessian
