Film star and Oscar® nominee Sally Kirkland, in celebrity cameo, to attend
The executive producers of “Ron and Laura Take Back America” announce today that their film will screen at the 10th Annual Hoboken International Film Festival. The multiple award-winning film will play May 30, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Middletown, NY (17 South St, Middletown, NY 10940), and along with the filmmakers, Academy Award® Best Actress Nominee Sally Kirkland will attend. The feature will play alongside a short film also starring Kirkland and Burt Young, “Tom in America.”
“I was so thrilled to work on this funny and award-winning film!” says Kirkland, who plays herself in a celebrity cameo in “Ron and Laura Take Back America.” Kirkland is also starring in the opening night feature of the festival “Price for Freedom” with Paul Sorvino.
“Janice and I were so honored to have an actress of Sally’s talent and caliber in our film,” say one of the filmmmakers and stars, Mel England. Janice Markham, the film’s other star and filmmaker adds, “We love Sally!”
“Ron and Laura Take Back America” is a mockumentary satire that follows in the footsteps of such films of Christopher Guest as “Best in Show” and “Waiting for Guffman”. Written and directed by its co-stars, the comedy team of England (“Little Big Top”) and Markham (“Grandma Sylvia’s Funeral”), the film also stars Golden Globe® Best Actress Nominee Irene Bedard (“Into the West”) and Jim J. Bullock (“The New Hollywood Squares”), and is executive produced by Tony® winning producer Sue Vaccaro (“Clybourne Park”).
The film is indeed on a festival winning streak, having garnered 16 awards and nominations from the Festival circuit, including “Best Comedy,” “Best of Festival," “Best Director” (England & Markham) and “Best Actress” (Markham) at Indie Fest USA. Earlier in 2014, the film also won “Best Comedy” at the New York City International Film Festival, and earned nominations for “Best US Narrative Feature” and “Best Actor” (England). Most recently, at Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema, the film won "Best Ensemble Cast" and was nominated for "Best Feature" "Best Directors" "Best Screenplay"(England and Markham) "Best Actor" (England) "Best Actress" (Markham) and also nominations for the Mary Austin Women in Film Awards for "Best Director" and "Best Screenplay" (Markham), and "Excellence in Producing" (Markham, Vaccaro and Bedard).
"Ron and Laura Take Back America” follows the exploits of a conservative suburban couple who decide to take their country back from Obamacare, Immigration Reform, Gay Marriage… and Hollywood Health Food Nuts! A modern day "All in the Family," the film is a funny, sometimes poignant, look at a family divided by the contemporary political issues of our time. When Ron and Laura decide to film their protests, the “culture wars” land right in their own back yard — they find out their son is gay, and they lose their health insurance! RON AND LAURA draws its humor from sometimes painful realities, and sometimes, just plain silly wacky comedy!

Sonic Branding For Social Media: Engage, Align, Connect
By Chad Cook -- With more than five billion people accessing social media daily, savvy brands understand the importance of cultivating a strong social identity. They devote massive resources toward brand awareness, audience targeting, content strategy and community engagement. Yet, while they know that social platforms are critical to boosting sales and attracting new customers, many neglect one of the most effective tools for connecting with consumers: sonic branding. Marketers often associate sonic branding with catchy mnemonics used by big brands like McDonald’s, Netflix and Intel in their advertising. But that is a very limited view of what sonic branding is and what it can do. Sonic branding is a way to build awareness and stimulate engagement across all touch points, from advertising to broadcast digital, in-person and social. And it’s not limited to members of the Fortune 500. Brands at all levels can benefit from a sonic identity that is memorable, engaging and reflective of its core values. Sound has been scientifically proven to be deeply tied to memory and emotion. There’s a reason that certain songs stick in your head and bring back memories formed years or even decades earlier. So, it’s surprising that sonic branding is often an afterthought in marketing plans. That is especially true in social media marketing. Faced with tight deadlines and strained budgets, creative teams are often tempted to select music for their content simply because it “fits.” Unfortunately, that may result in content that is in tune with what’s trending but is out of tune with brand identity. Effective sonic branding, by contrast, requires thoughtful strategic planning,... Read More
