The Orchard announced today that they have acquired all North American rights to ANIMAL’s documentary feature CROCODILE GENNADIY. The film, directed by Steve Hoover, recently celebrated its World Premiere at 2015 Tribeca Film Festival to critical acclaim.
Danny Yourd, Hoover’s long time creative partner, produced the film. The executive producers are Terrence Malick and Nicholas Gonda, and Animal’s partners Jim Kreitzburg, Kathy Dziubek and Michael Killen. Atticus Ross, Academy Award® winner for Best Original Score for THE SOCIAL NETWORK, is the composer on the film.
In CROCODILE GENNADIY, Gennadiy Mokhnenko has made a name for himself by forcibly abducting homeless drug-addicted kids from the streets of Mariupol, Ukraine. As his country leans towards a European Union inclusion, hopes of continued post-Soviet revitalization seem possible. In the meantime, Gennadiy’s center has evolved into a more nebulous institution.
This marks Hoover’s second film. His first feature, BLOOD BROTHER, won both the Audience and Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary at Sundance 2013.

The deal was negotiated by Danielle DiGiacomo on behalf of The Orchard and Abby Davis of Preferred Content on behalf of the filmmakers. Roco Films is on board for International sales.
