kaboom director erik moe infuses the new Skechers campaign with a subtle humor that will especially resonate with anyone whose watched instructional Golf videos. The spots, two of which are airing now, star professional golfer Matt Kuchar, who offers suggestions on how to golf like a pro including, of course, wearing Skechers Performance "Go Golf" shoes.
Throughout his career, erik moe has been a trusted resource when it comes to collaborating with celebrity athletes. For this project, erik filmed Matt Kuchar on the sweeping course at Silverado in Napa, the day after Matt played a tournament. The goal, notes the director, was to capture the golfers warmth and affability in a performance that is a subtly comedic homage to the “how-to” genre.
“He’s a great guy with a genuine everyman feel, perfect for these funny scripts. During the shoot, I’d occasionally feed him lines not in the original and he was open about trying out different ideas, which isn’t always easy for a non-actor. He nailed it,” erik recounts.
Late last year, erik moe’s unique background as both agency creative and director was in full stride for the inspiring Skechers, #getyourmilesin campaign. For Skechers, erik wrote and directed spots, which feature 2014 Boston winner Meb Keflezighi and noted long distance runner Kara Goucher who was part of the 2012 Olympic Track & Field team. To extend the digital reach of the campaign, erik concepted an accompanying Vine series where a touch of erik’s comedic leanings shines.
