The diploma film Wrapped, produced at the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and directed by Roman Kaelin, Falko Paeper and Florian Wittmann has been honored with a VES Award at yesterday evening's ceremony in Los Angeles. Wrapped succeeded over three other nominated student productions in the category "Outstanding Visual Effects in a Student Project," including Deep Dance by Marco Erbrich, another diploma film created at the Institute of Animation.
The VES Awards are bestowed every year by the Visual Effects Society and count as the highest distinction in the field of visual effects right after the Oscars. Roman Kaelin and Falko Paeper were present at the ceremony, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, and thus able to accept the trophy in person. By winning the VES Sudent Award, the Wrapped-Team has scooped yet another prestigious award. Beforehand, Wrapped had already received prices at the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival, the LA Shorts Festival and the German animago Award, among others.
In December, the animated short-film Wrapped had been selected as the cinematic basis for the FMX 2015 trailer, thereby following in the footsteps of last year's VES Student Award winners, Rugbybugs (Matthias Baeuerle, Fabian Fricke, Emanuel Fuchs, Martin Lapp and Carl Schroeter), which had been the source material for the FMX 2014 trailer. The final FMX 2015 trailer will be released shortly before FMX which takes place from May 5 to 8 this year, in Stuttgart, Germany. The teaser for the trailer can be found on Youtube.
