The industry is mourning the passing of director Jonas Frick, 39, who worked on commercials through bicoastal/international @radical.media. Frick died on Dec. 22 in a New York City hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia. The director was in New York scouting locations for a spot project when he became ill. Born and raised in northern Sweden, Frick studied film in Stockholm and went on to helm features (e.g., Strul, Svindlande Affarer) and Swedish TV fare (Glasmastarna) before diversifying into spots. He moved to the U.S. in 2000….Word is that director Melodie McDaniel, formerly of now defunct Satellite, is about to sign on with The Directors Bureau, Hollywood, a sister shop to bicoastal HKM Productions….Director Stacy Wall has come aboard bicoastal Epoch Films for spot representation. Wall formerly helmed commercials via bicoastal/international hungry man….Film processing mainstay Deluxe Laboratories and digital postproduction house Post Logic Studios, both headquartered in Hollywood, have formed an alliance to serve clients of both companies, as needed, with lab and post services. Deluxe and Post Logic will also enter into an R&D program to develop digital technologies. The newly struck relationship is designed to offer expanded capabilities to clientele spanning longform and commercials. Post Logic maintains a Santa Monica-based visual effects/post boutique, Creo, which specializes in spots….Oscar Bassinson, a freelance director best known for his work in the food/tabletop arena, has launched InterPost, an Encino, Calif.-based editorial shop…. “Come See Me in the Good Light” Wins Festival Favorite Award At Sundance
The Sundance Film Festival today (2/2) announced its final award for the 2025 edition: Come See Me in the Good Light in the Premieres category received the Festival Favorite Award. The honor was voted on by the audiences from all the new feature films presented at the 2025 Festival. Other award winners were previously announced at a ceremony at The Ray Theatre in Park City, Utah, on January 31 (for SHOOT's coverage, click here).
Kim Yutani, director of programming for the Sundance Film Festival, said, “Throughout the Festival we saw audiences moved by Andrea Gibson’s and Megan Falley’s journeys in Come See Me in the Good Light. Looking ahead to next year, Sundance Institute also disclosed today the dates for the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, taking place in person in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, from January 22–February 1, 2026.
