Academy Award-winning director Daniel Junge’s documentary Being Evel has been selected for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Documentary Competition. The film is an unprecedented, candid portrait of American icon Robert “Evel” Knievel and his legacy. The documentary is produced by HēLō and producers Brendan Kiernan and Justin Moore-Lewy, with production partners Dickhouse Entertainment (Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, Mat Hoffman). Junge has directed over a dozen feature and short films that have made festival runs and appeared on HBO, BBC, PBS and over 50 other networks. His films have garnered numerous accolades including an Academy Award® for Best Documentary, Short Subject and an Emmy® Award for Best Documentary for his film “Saving Face” that examines the issue of acid violence in Pakistan and the efforts of one plastic surgeon to improve the victims’ lives.
HēLō also recently produced the LEGO documentary, Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary, directed by Junge, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was picked up by Radius/TWC for worldwide distribution.
In addition to his film work, Junge has leveraged his award-winning feature background to create docu-style branded work for the likes of Frontier Airlines, CenturyLink and Steelcase, with an upcoming branded short for Liberty Mutual.
Another HēLō director, Michael Mohan, has a short film Pink Grapefruit chosen for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The short features a young married couple that invites two of their single friends to Palm Springs for a long weekend. It does not go as planned.
Mohan's feature Save the Date premiered in dramatic competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film, starring Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie, was co-written by graphic novelist Jeffrey Brown and Egan Reich, and released by IFC Films. Mohan’s recent commercial output includes the Kate Spade Holiday branded film, “The Waiting Game,” starring Anna Kendrick.
