Complete International Competition entry guidelines are available on the Aspen Film website, aspenfilm.org, or by clicking here.
Regarded as a premier North American showcase for short film, Aspen Shortsfest brings together approximately 50 filmmaker guests every spring from all over the globe to participate in screenings, in-depth Q&A's, school education programs and special events. Nearly 3,000 short films from over 90 countries were considered in 2014, with 70 short films representing 30 countries ultimately selected.
Aspen Shortsfest's centerpiece, the Oscar®-qualifying International Competition, features numerous premieres and reflects the rich diversity and creativity of today's short films. A jury of active film professionals awards cash prizes to winners across several categories including animation, comedy, drama, documentary, student and more. A platform for emerging talent, the festival spotlights films that subsequently receive critical recognition including recent Oscar® winners and nominees. Tomasz Śliwiński's Our Curse (Best Documentary, Shortsfest 2014) and Lucy Walker's The Lion's Mouth Opens (Special Jury Recognition, Shortsfest 2014) were recently short-listed for Academy Award® nomination consideration.
Aspen Shortsfest is made possible through generous support of the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Aspen, Colorado Creative Industries, The Aspen Times, Aspen Public Radio and Aspen Out.
