The Foundation, an Austin, Texas-based film production company and editing studio, recently partnered with A Better Chance on a special 50th anniversary video campaign entitled “There Is No Stopping Us.”
The campaign was designed as an awareness and fundraising initiative for the New York-based non-profit dedicated to developing the leadership potential of talented youth of color through better access to education. To date, A Better Chance has placed more than 14,000 students into some of the nation’s finest public and private college preparatory schools. Among the program’s numerous distinguished alumni are Hon. Deval Patrick, the first African-American governor of Massachusetts; multi-platinum and multi-Grammy winning artist Tracy Chapman; and Dr. Bonnie Jenkins, Ambassador and Coordinator for Threat Reduction, United States Department of State.
The 30 and 60-second spots feature A Better Chance Scholars currently in middle and high school, and were shot in Brooklyn, New York in just one day. According to The Foundation principal and founder Jason Uson, the aggressive shooting schedule along with the students’ lack of on-camera experience proved both challenging and inspiring. “We wanted the kids to shine in these spots like the future leaders they are,” said Jason Uson, “Once they became more comfortable in front of the camera, they were able to deliver a hard-hitting yet hopeful message in an extremely authentic way.”
Feedback on the spots has been enthusiastic, while web traffic has increased, according to Sandra Timmons, president of A Better Chance. “I think that Jason captured the sentiment of these determined young people fantastically, and we were all impressed with his ability to convey an emotionally complex social message in 60 seconds,” said Timmons.
The Foundation is a full service boutique and a one-stop destination for direction, production and editing. The company’s portfolio includes broadcast commercials, PSAs, digital media, documentaries and films, all under the direction of founder Jason Uson. Uson was with Beast Editorial in Los Angeles and Austin before establishing The Foundation in late 2012. Today, the company prides itself on its work for a large and diverse clientele including Ace Hardware, Zales, LPGA, and recently finished a Walgreens campaign. The Foundation will expand its capabilities even further with the opening of a new studio in East Austin later this year.
