Verbatim Studio senior mix Conor Murphy completed the final surround sound audio mixes for MetLife’s 2014 Super Bowl TV efforts, one of which was the final spot leading into the start of the big game. This year’s Super Bowl was held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Original music & branding powerhouse Elias Arts brought the spot to Verbatim. Elias Arts, Executive Producer Kate Dohaney, Creative Director Greg Griffith and Production Coordinator Matt Phenix collaborated on the finished product. The spots, entitled “National Anthem,” were created by Ari Merkin.
5.1 and stereo mixing for television broadcast is a highly regarded and technical field, and Verbatim Sound’s Murphy has extensive experience in this area, through work on multiple seasons of Saturday Night Live where he handled post -production broadcast mixing.
“It was one of those spots that is a real pleasure to work on; creative, simple and heartwarming,” says Murphy. “Simplicity of content often leads to more complexity in surround mixing, as it gives more creative freedom. It was a challenge that I really enjoyed, and a great creative team made the collaboration a real joy.”
The “National Anthem” :15, :30 and :60 spots perfectly harnessed the familiarity of the beloved Peanuts cartoon characters with the nostalgia of the national anthem. The peaceful, yet powerful, piano performance created a beautiful juxtaposition to the physical nature of the game itself.
You can check out the spot here. Super Bowl commercials have become an integral and extremely popular part of the game’s tradition. With over 100 million having tuned in to this year’s game, spots are reaching more and more viewers.
