Blending photo-real computer graphics (CG) effects with live action, Section Studios brings the post-apocalyptic vision of “Nether” to life in a new cinematic trailer.
The cinematic video, directed by Section Studios‘ Charles Paek, continues the visual effects trend of merging live action with photo-real CG to bring a ruined landscape filled with demons and creatures to life. To create the devastation for the world of “Nether,” which follows a lone survivor on a harrowing journey, Paek relied heavily on his strong VFX background to meticulously pre-plan the live action shoot. Shot in Palmdale, CA, Paek scouted and shot all of the outdoor environments in a desert setting, knowing that the ruined Chicago landscape would be added in post. The interior locations were shot at Lacey Studios, which was also used on films such as “Catch Me if You Can” and “Saw.”
Paek and his team at Rogues Gallery (which merged with Section Studios in 2013) had previously brought gritty worlds to life with the trailer for PC game “HAWKEN.” In addition to directing cinematics, Paek has directed for brands such as Hewlett-Packard, Beats by Dre, Toyota and Mercedes.
“Nether” is scheduled for release in 2013. Paek is commercially represented by Durable Goods and Brink Studio.
