Sohonet, the leading expert in connectivity and data management for the media and entertainment industry, has announced the launch of Sohonet Media Storage, the first private cloud storage as a service platform tuned and optimized for the media sector and accessed via its world-renowned Sohonet Media Network.
Sohonet Media Storage is an extensible, secure and flexible storage solution, which provides additional and supplementary storage capability to existing infrastructures when local storage has reached critical or maximum utilization. The service has a variety of pricing plans to suit all project sizes, which should prove particularly appealing to creative businesses that tend to predominantly operate on a short-term, project basis.
Ben Dair, Sohonet‘s Director of Product Management, commented, “As digital workloads rapidly increase, the demands made on media companies’ IT infrastructure, especially at peak times, is often unsustainable. Media companies and service providers are crying out for a short term, flexible storage service that enables them to expand and extend storage capability on production or post-production projects quickly, easily and without having to purchase and maintain assets. Sohonet Media Storage has been developed to respond to this need by providing flexible, affordable access to short and long-term archiving, back up, and parking as well as a viable option for intermediate storage or as an alternative to LTO or portable disks.”
Sohonet Media Storage is attached and embedded within the Sohonet Media Network which, unlike other storage providers, ensures that, productions and post-production companies can leverage the benefit of their Sohonet Media Network connection at speeds of up to 10Gbit/s, with no data transfer charges in or out nor bandwidth limitations on transfer speeds. The solution is built on Open Stack technology, with the embedded redundancy required to reassure media businesses that their valuable digital assets are in good hands. The service provides customers with one terabyte to multiple petabytes of data storage, at the flick of a switch as if located on-site, and provides intuitive tools to allow customers to scale their provision up and down, as required.
Dave Scammell, CEO, Sohonet, said, “We are expanding our reputation as a world- leading connectivity and data management company by adding increased value to our existing services. We understand exactly what our media customers need to help them meet the many challenges of a demanding digital world, and we are extending our expertise beyond the network, to include a range of specialist, media-aware offerings, on an infrastructure-as-a-service basis. Our latest service, Sohonet Media Storage promises to take the headache out of storage procurement on both a short and long-term basis for new and existing members of our Sohonet Media Network. The new service will enable content producers to manage more projects and internal resources without impacting on capital expenditure, and we believe that we have created the ideal storage service to fully support our customer’s journey into an exciting digital future.”
By integrating the storage offering into the Sohonet Hub alongside Sohonet‘s award winning FileRunner file transfer solution, customers continue to benefit from an increasing range of tools and services available on the Sohonet platform.
