eyeball, a creative and strategic design agency founded in New York City twenty years ago, has announced the opening of their West Coast office. There they will strengthen and expand, serving broadcast networks, agencies, and brands, and adding to a portfolio of clients that include Amazon Kindle, Target, AOL, Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey, and The New York Aquarium.
Initially formed as a leading-edge motion graphics studio, eyeball‘s work has been respected and sought out by broadcast networks ranging from PBS to Ovation TV to Univision Deportes. This broadcast brand tradition alongside ongoing relationships with major West Coast clients such as Seattle-based Amazon, made the move to LA a clear next step for growth.
“The West Coast has long been our second home,” said Limore Shur, eyeball‘s founder and Executive Creative Director. “Setting up shop here not only brings us closer to many of the clients and friends we know, it creates new opportunities to engage with a whole different pool of talent, methodologies, and ideas.”
Established 1991 in Shur’s basement apartment, eyeball was born of the conviction that beautiful, professional-grade motion graphics could be produced using desktop computers available to artists anywhere, at a time when it was thought only the most sophisticated and costly machinery could do the job. Since then, eyeball has grown from a homespun Brooklyn outpost to an 50-person 4-floor studio in Soho, offering proven expertise in design, audio, print, VFX, digital, live action production, and brand strategy.
“We’re proud of the successes that made the LA office not just possible, but inevitable,” said Ben Spivak, who has served as eyeball‘s Managing Partner since 2007. “We look forward to being in LA, and we’re excited to see whom we’ll be collaborating with next.”
Eyeball West joins a growing neighborhood of metro LA offices repurposed from post-Recession housing stock. In keeping with an ethos of agile creativity, eyeball employed set designers to efficiently retrofit the garage space of the Venice, CA villa into a versatile studio environment. Since initially opening the studio space, it has spread from the garage into the first floor of the adjacent home. With mid- and long-term plans in place for increased staffing, expansion that shows no sign of slowing and look forward to finding a new location.
“We are excited to find a more permanent location. And lookout for upcoming announcements regarding key staffing and client projects in the near future,” said Spivak.
