Dattner Dispoto and Associates (DDA) cinematographer Bojan Bazelli, ASC has lensed “The Lone Ranger” for director Gore Verbinski, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.
Opening across multiple major world markets on July 3, the film is Disney/Bruckheimer’s revamp of the enduring masked legend, played in this version by Hammer. Depp features as Tonto and Ruth Wilson as the female lead Rebecca. Co-starring are Helena Bonham Carter, William Fichtner and Tom Wilkinson.
The film is Bazelli and Verbinski’s first cinematic adventure together after their runaway success with the highly-regarded, ambient horror drama “The Ring.”
Bazelli captured the film’s expansive western settings in Moab, Utah and Cimarron Canyon State Park in New Mexico, as well as further locations across Texas, Colorado, Arizona and California. He shot anamorphic with Panavision Panaflex Platinum and Arriflex 435 cameras on Panavision C- and G-Series lenses, using Kodak stocks.
Before the “Lone Ranger,” Bazelli shot director Adam Shankman’s “Rock of Ages” and “Hairspray.” Shankman praised Bazelli’s “unbridled passion.” His body of work also includes Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Kalifornia and King of New York. He is one of the few cinematographers to have received the American Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) Best Cinematography honor twice since the event’s inception.
Bazelli is represented by Dattner Dispoto and Associates in Los Angeles.
