Los Angeles, CA-based entertainment company WINDOWSEAT director Bill Kiely fuels creativity with the ease and functionality of emerging technology in the new web series “What’s On Your Drive?” for Western Digital out of R&R Partners. The series, featuring 5 :60s, highlights people whose lives have been greatly improved with the use of Western Digital’s new My Book Live hard drives with cloud computing capabilities.
The series spotlights several individuals: storyteller/content creator Gotham Chopra, Brooklyn-based street artist Ann Lewis, healthy eating advocate and children’s cookbook author Deanna Cook and film/TV composer Greg Keuhn. All of the profiles outlines how passionately the individuals feel about their work, and then take a close look at how Western Digital’s products marry technology, flexibility, and ease. Kiely and his team hit the road for the production, traveling to numerous locations across the country to capture the stories in authentic settings.
Says Kiely, “I have picked Western Digital hard drives when I replaced my Powerbook drives in the past, so to align them with this project was building upon a relationship I already had with their products.”
One installment features storyteller/content creator Gotham Chopra, who explains in his segment, “I make comic books, I create animation, I do shorts, I write, I blog, I created a YouTube channel with my family, I’m a filmmaker. I’m creating new types of characters, painting new worlds that are a fusion between east and west.” Chopra, the son of famed health guru Deepak Chopra, also runs some of the family business. We see a dynamic mix of his work crafted all over the globe as he continues, “What motivates me to tell a story is to unpack the meaning and purpose of existence. Trying to make sense of the world around us is what inspires me on a daily basis.” We transition to L.A., where he lives, and New York and India where he has studios. The video concludes with him explaining his reliance on My Book Live and the Western Digital logo.
The video featuring Ann Lewis starts in much the same way, “I’m Ann Lewis and I’m a street artist.” We see a video of Lewis painting a hole in a vector made graphic of a vibrant cityscape. Lewis goes on to explain how she does what she does to help inspire her local community, create discussions and even change people’s perspectives on art and landscape in general. Lewis then goes on to describe how important collaboration is for her and other artists that she works with. The video pans on her talking and sharing ideas with others. Ann tells us how easy it is to share ideas and content with her collaborators using My Book Live, a sharing structure made by Western Digital. She explains that she has control of who can see it, which also gives her piece of mind. “I want to create conversation and create change,” continues Lewis as we focus on one of her pieces. We close on a shot of her My Book Live sitting next to her computer, ready for action with the spotlight on Western Digital’s logo.
Deanna Cook’s segment opens with her stating, “I’m Deanna Cook. I am a children’s cookbook author.” Cook explains that she does her work because of the general lack of healthy eating among people, specifically kids. We see beautiful shots of Cook and her family slicing and dicing crisp vegetables. We also watch her daughters playing “documentarians” and photographing while Cook is preparing food. Cook goes on to explain that everyone in her family is always taking photos and that with My Book Live’s hard drive and cloud capabilities, it’s extremely easy for everyone to upload their photos, compiling them in one easy to access location. “Creating a cookbook with my family actually makes me feel like I’m creating a difference,” says Cook as the :90 web film wraps up with a shot of My Book Live next to her computer. We then see the Western Digital logo, WD, on a
