Academy Award<supĀ®-winning Dattner Dispoto and Associates (DDA) cinematographer Claudio Miranda, ASC’s next feature is Universal’s “Oblivion, “releasing April 12 in the United States.
The science-fiction story features Tom Cruise as a drone repairman living on an earth shattered by alien invasion, whose discovery of a crashed spaceship and its 22 year-old female inhabitant call into question everything he knows. “Oblivion” is directed by Joseph Kosinski from a Radical Comics graphic novel by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.
The film is Miranda and Kosinski’s second feature together, having collaborated on 2010’s “TRON: Legacy.”
“Oblivion” is the first feature release shot on a Sony F65. The DP chose to use the camera to capture the majority of the imagery, favoring its colorspace and the detailed textural quality it brought to images of a post-apocalyptic Earth. Red Epics provided some closer action sequences and plate shoots.
Miranda won this year’s Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography Academy Award<supĀ® for “Life of Pi.”
