Bicoastal visual effects studio, ArsenalFX, halts time with a tune of a youthful wintry romance in the new :15 “Beats Pill” for Beats by Dr. Dre, direct to client. The spot captures the spirit of the holiday season, intertwined with emotional highs and lows common with young love, through a frozen in time snapshot of a frosty city scene, to the song “Gone, Gone, Gone” by Phillip Phillips.
ArsenalFX’s Artists, led by creative director Lauren Mayer-Beug, crafted and placed CG snow and additional CG weather elements, a CG frozen water splash from under the taxi wheel, CG curtains and CG signs. Additionally, the team composited multiple plates (shot with motion control) together to create the final shot featuring “The Pill” product in hand. Color for the spot was also handled in-house by ArsenalFX’s Mark Leiss and Lauren Mayer-Beug.
“Beats Pill” opens on the face of a pretty young woman, leaning on a windowsill looking out adoringly from a warmly lit room. Snow appears to be lightly dusting the street as the camera zooms back from the woman and reveals a city street with Christmas lights scattered across neighboring stoops. As we continue panning, we see a young man through a burst of steam rising from underground. The man is standing in the middle of the street beside a taxi passing a RadioShack that, though frozen in time, is splashing a dirty puddle of water. The young man stares intently as he hold up a red Beats by Dr. Dre Pill, a portable sound source, playing Phillip Phillips “Gone, Gone, Gone.” The song says “Baby, I’m not moving on, I’ll love you long after you’re gone.” The camera begins to zoom in on the Beats Pill, and then cuts to white background with circuit board snowflakes tucked neatly behind a still image of a red Beats by Dr. Dre Pill. Above the Red pill reads the super, “THE PILL, beats by dr. dre. Available at RadioShack.”
