Bicoastal visual effects studio ArsenalFX reveals a wildly imaginative side of Vegas through a child’s inquiring eyes in the new :30 “Around the Corner” for Springs Preserve out of R&R Partners, Inc. The artfully color-graded and composited spot features an enlivened storybook view of the interactive science and nature exhibits, botanical gardens, hiking, trails and live animal shows available at Springs Preserve’s 180-acre cultural institution.
ArsenalFX‘s Creative Director Lauren Mayer-Beug worked on set with director Josh Forbes, overseeing the shooting of plates for the strikingly visual spot. She then edited and supplied animation transitions for the entire piece, seamlessly weaving one wondrous vignette into the next. ArsenalFX‘s entire CG department amplified the fantastical imagery with roto, design and vivid color by in-house colorist Larry Field.
“Around the Corner” opens on a little girl gazing curiously at a giant wooly mammoth skeleton. As we zoom in over the tusks, we transition to a vibrant Native American desert community bustling with activity. As we follow a bird flying off into the sky, we transport to a thriving public garden, brimming with plant and animal life. As we zoom into a rustic windmill, we are shown a man soulfully strumming guitar by his austere country cabin in the woods. We plummet through the darkened doorway into a dimly lit cave where an explorer is carefully appraising his latest find. A roaring surge of water delivers us to a moonlit traditional hula dance, complete with swirling batons of fire. We zoom into the moon in the background as a woman in traditional makeup pops up and gazes back at the camera. She then spins around, launching myriad exotic butterflies.
The butterflies clear to reveal the little girl from before, now in an enchanting butterfly princess costume. A child’s voiceover concludes, “Throughout the year and around every corner, there’s always something to see.” The spot closes with the Springs Preserve logo and the super, “Gardens. Exhibits. Events. Museums. Trails.”
